CARCY x Reishi™ Collaboration

CARCY Magazine Launches Limited Edition Reishi™ Run

CARCY Magazine celebrated the launch of its twelfth issue in partnership with MycoWorks at Paris’ newly opened Galerie AU ROI. Founded by the Parisian creative director Stephane Carcy in 2017, CARCY magazine hones in on representation and identity, interpreting and reinterpreting the world into works of eroticism, fashion, photography, illustration and performance art. The FW24 bi-annual large format magazine focuses on “chimeras”—the mythological hybrids of human and animal. Today, chimeras are very real, redefining life on earth and across industries.

“In medieval philosophy, a chimera is an ‘entity composed of incompatible parts,’ highlighting a logical impossibility,” notes Stephane Carcy in the issue nº12 Editorial. “Yet today, as rigid boundaries of identity collapse under the weight of lust and love, the existence of chimeras feels more relevant than ever. Once symbols of rupture, disorder and moral deviance, chimeras are today’s emblem of the fluid.”

With chimeras as theme, CARCY’s twelfth edition partnered with Reishi™ to highlight this new era of nature and transformation. Founded by two artists in a basement in San Francisco, MycoWorks’ Reishi™ was a once a mythological idea of its own right; grown from the deep roots of funghi–mycelium–today, Reishi™ is a fine material, a new kind of skin, cultivated and rendered whole by the hands of many artists, scientists and craftspeople.

“It really is from the combination of all these ideas–art, science, entrepreneurship–that Reishi™ emerged” notes MycoWorks co-founder Sophia Wang in CARCY issue nº12. “Sometimes it takes coming from thinking outside the box, as they say, coming right from left field, to see something in a new way.”

A Mycélium Utopia as CARCY has called it, is already here – and Reishi™ has become a catalyst, inspiring a new era of creativity.

French artist Morgane Tschiember’s samurai costume for the currently touring FOR GOD’S ONLY ballet graces the pages of this upcoming issue. MycoWorks creative Director Xavier Gallego notes that “Collaborating with artists is one way we educate and bring the story of Reishi™ to the right audience, including designers and artists worldwide.”

Unveiled at the launch party, CARCY x Reishi™ introduced a limited-edition run of the twelfth issue: a unique chimera-inspired serigraphy printed mycelium. Already sold-out, attendees at the launch were able to discover the limited-edition, as well as several mycelium sculptures grown from the CARCY issue produced by MycoWorks Creative Studio.
